Our Mission:

    To support Christian education

Britain's future looked dark and uncertain on Christmas Eve, 1939.  But when King George VI spoke to his subjects by radio that night, he offered them a prescription for overcoming despair as they stood on the threshold of World War II.  "Go out into the darkness and put thine hand in the hand of God," he told them, quoting from a poem by M. Louise Haskins.

Today  America's enemies are terrorists from abroad and pernicious materialism from within, but the prescription is the same.  At UpAmerica we believe that if our nation, or indeed, any nation, is to be led out of darkness it must grasp the outstretched hand of God.  That means turning to Christ, the savior of the world, and incorporating Christian principles into the education process at all levels - - parenting, day-care, kindergarten, Sunday School, and right on through college.  This cannot be accomplished through government involvement; parents must take the lead.  And it doesn't mean turning our young people into a generation of preachers and priests, it means teaching them that life is more than things and that lives can be lights to blow away the darkness and bring glory to our Creator.

We believe the first steps toward building a kinder, gentler, nobler nation must be taken by Christian parents who recognize the importance of training their children from birth "in the way they should go" (Proverbs 26:6).  To that end we have offered the articles, "Parenting 1.01."  While this material is accessible here on the web, we strongly encourage church leaders to  present Bible-based parenting classes for young parents within their own communities.

"At Ohio Valley University, we seek to transform lives in a Christ-centered academic community that integrates higher learning, biblical faith, and service to God and humanity."

We urge all of our readers to give their support to Christian education and to those who have dedicated their lives to that worthy endeavor.  I am one of nearly forty men and women who serve as members of the board of trustees of Ohio Valley University,  believing in and actively supporting this small, academically strong and rapidly growing Christian learning center (http://www.ovu.edu/).  Although the UpAmerica web site is in no way affiliated with that institution, those who would like to show their support for the UpAmerica mission to advance Christian education may do so by sending tax-deductible donations to Ohio Valley University, 1 Campus View Drive, Vienna, WV  26105.

    May God bless America.
